What’s to come

Even when we stop adding more plastic to the oceans (which is as drastic a change as discontinuing use of fossil fuels), the amount of plastic which is already present in the oceans is estimated to be around 150 million metric tons, and not all of it gets washed out to the shore or is floating atop the water surface. Moreover, plastic debris is so spread across ocean waters, that it is almost impossible to get it out of it in some remote locations.
