What is IQ?

IQ is a measurement of intelligence based on specialized tests. This or similar definition of IQ is listed in many sources. Basically, someone defines how clever you are by assigning a cleverness score to you, based on the standardized assessment. The problem is – how can a test measure intelligence when intelligence itself does not have a single agreed upon definition? Do you really know what is being tested?

In fact, we know. IQ tests concentrate on measuring a few types of skills, such as verbal, mathematical, logical reasoning, pattern recognition, classification, visual perception, spatial reasoning, and mathematical skills.

Sounds very holistic, but is that all there is that constitutes your intelligence? How about creativity or social skills? And why Emotional Intelligence is not being tested in IQ tests? Is Emotional Intelligence… not an intelligence? Or are IQ tests concentrate on only specific areas?
