Meditation and mindfulness are viewed by many people as one and the same. They do overlap, but they are not one and the same.

One can practice meditation habitually for years and never live mindfully, whereas another can be very mindful without trying meditation even once.

Meditation is a formal practice, and its goal is to bring you the state of mindfulness. It is like a tool, just one of the tools which can help you to get mindful.
