Almost all halocarbons are man-made and non-toxic to humans. They were liberally used, and consequently, their concentration in the atmosphere increased. As it became apparent later, halocarbons are also greenhouse gases, which add to global warming. Besides trapping heat in the atmosphere, they destroy our protective ozone layer, in a chain of reactions, mostly due to chlorine present in halocarbons.
