Imagine how it feels

Jaime Berenguer is a Spanish psychologist who conducted a study on the application of empathy to our environment – namely to birds and trees which were damaged by human impact. His findings confirm that showing more empathy towards (maybe through humanizing) plants and animals increases environmental awareness. And this could be done easily and quickly – just by instructing the person looking at the piece of the environment to imagine how it feels.

Empathy has a lot of benefits for the person experiencing it. Even though it is our natural ability, by social learning, which elicits being indifferent and not give way to emotions, we lose the ability to feel what others feel. But regaining it is what will help us feel more human, more real. Empathy enables you to see clearly another perspective, without changing how you view the issue yourself.
