Coronavirus first infected people through a vector, because it got to humans from animals. But since it started to spread between people, other modes of transmission are more relevant. WHO says the virus spreads through droplet. Because droplet containing virus can land on surface and stay there longer, direct and indirect modes of transmission is also possible.
Even though SARS-CoV-2 is not believed to be airborne, a research by US scientists shows that the virus from smaller droplets can stay in the air up to few hours. This means, places crowded with many infected are likely to have high virus concentration in the air for several hours.
