We start with Garshana, or dry brushing of the skin, traditional Ayurveda practice that brings a lot of benefits to your skin and body.

Put the vessel with the oil mix into hot water, to let it warm while you’ll do the brushing.

Get undressed and stand on the towel to avoid dead skin brushed on the floor. Take the brush and start brushing paying attention to the feelings that arise. 

You have now stimulated your nervous system with the brushing and can enhance this procedure with Abhyanga. Traditionally, the strokes are performed in the direction of hair growth, which is in the opposite direction from the heart. This is opposite from the direction the brushing is done.

This probably helps to bring the blood towards more distal parts of the body. However, since you have done strokes towards the heart, it is better to keep the same direction.
