Detected cases

One of the difficulties in estimating the death rate accurately is that not all the cases are detected and/or reported. There are plenty of infected people who are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. They never went to hospital to confirm the coronavirus and probably recovered by themselves, never being part of the statistics. This would increase the number of total cases, but also the number of recovered, hence bringing the death rate down.

But here is the thing – some people also die after contracting coronavirus, but were never diagnosed with it. Some countries simply don’t test people in critical condition, so death cause is never reported as coronavirus.
