Geothermal energy is fully renewable, and we have plenty of it! There are, however, some dangers in using it.
While digging a hole in the earth, we risk causing an earthquake. This, however, can be prevented with careful site selection and inspection prior to digging.
The technology for drilling holes is available – it is the same that we use for extracting fossil fuels from the ground. Geothermal energy, however, can be accessed anywhere on earth, without discrimination.
While expensive to implement, however, when we compare the cost to fossil fuel extraction, it is much cheaper – by up to 80%! Many countries are making use of this energy, and hopefully, many more will see the benefit of having a more accessible and always available source of energy. This, however, would deem fossil fuels less profitable; hence, they are not interested in promoting this energy use.
