Pharmaceuticals and body care products (PPCPs) are classified as environmental contaminants[1] and their influence on ecosystems, and people have been studied since the 1990s. On top of environmental pollution, the danger of this situation is amplified with increasing presence of antibiotics residue in the environment, which leads to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. More about antibiotics we discuss separately in the next lesson.

What’s more, conventional water-purifying methods do not remove residues of pharmaceuticals and body care products, which means that tap water running at your home is most probably affected. Next time you have a headache, simply have a glass of tap water (half-jokingly, this is a serious issue).
