When you learn to delay gratification, statistics say that you can become much more successful in many things. Moreover, when you finally get something because you have been invested in it for longer, the pleasure is much higher than immediate reward.

It is just delayed in time, and human brain prefers something smaller now than something more significant later. Poor logic, but learned with the constant exposure to social media and accessibility of the goods in the consumerist materialistic world.
