Bacterial adaptation

Antibiotics kill harmful bacteria against which they were developed.

However, every time a tiny portion of these bacteria survives and develops resistance to the drug. You can think of it as an adaptation of the bacteria to the new conditions (think back to general adaptation syndrome, and see how everything in nature works in the same way).

Survivor microorganisms are favored by evolution, it is survival of the fittest – these bacteria are fit to the new conditions.
