Another obstacle that we encounter due to information age is short attention span. Patience is a very precious resource nowadays: we get bored easily and fast, we struggle to keep doing one thing for longer, we tend to switch attention to something else unable to maintain focus. But patience and consistency is something that we have to develop if we are to succeed in life.
New connections are formed in the brain when you do something new, but their strength is improved when you repeat this new thing consistently.
Active connections in the brain tend to get more durable and last longer. On the contrary, when you stop doing this new thing, the connection weakens and eventually disappears. This is a fundamental principle underlying habit formation – repeating something until it gets automatic and you can do it without thinking much. When you stop doing something – it gets out of habit. That’s neuroplasticity at work, it is built through practice and repetition.
