To create a powerful and correct Problem Statement, you will be using analysis and synthesis of the information gathered so far. It is a back-and-forth process which focuses on polishing your findings and getting the correct and useful conclusions.

You have already created your Empathy Map which is the entry point to the Define stage. In fact, by clustering the ideas based on your observations, you already started the second stage of the Design Thinking. You already started your analysis and information synthesis. This week you take this work further using analysis and synthesis in a different way.

You may need to go back to Empathy Stage a few times before you complete this stage. In design thinking you often “jump” between different stages to make sure that all new details and observations are accounted for. For example, after your analysis and synthesis you may have discovered that there’s a new angle to learn more about the problem your customers experience.

You may need to go back and ask them a few more questions to close the gaps in your knowledge. You can use a new group of interviewees for a different set of questions that could help you understand more clearly defined problem.

Prepare a new shared document in your Google Drive to record all the ideas and observations as well as analyse and synthesise information in one place.
