To heal yourself, you first need to become aware of pain. Many people are so detached from the body that they rarely feel subtle sensations that are early warning signals. Only when the pain becomes unbearable they react – by pushing it away. By regularly checking in with your body you can spot before it’s too late that there’s pain on the body.
Pain happens, it is there for us. We should accept it and thank it that it tells us that something can get worse. Without accepting the pain, it won’t disappear. On the other hand, when the pain is inevitable (such as the result of a chronic condition), but simply acknowledging that there is a pain, it suddenly loses its power. You see it then differently – pain is a pain, it is there, and it is fine.
