Carbon Cycle

Carbon is an atom and is a part of all the living creatures and non-living environment. It does not disappear or appear out of nowhere; it is present all the time and just transforms from one form to another in a process called Carbon Cycle.

When carbon flows from one place to another, the balance shifts. When we release carbon stored in earth, oceans, or plants, it connects with two oxygen molecules and gets into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide (CO2).

There is a short carbon cycle – in which all the living organisms are involved (when we breathe or in the process of photosynthesis), and there is a long carbon cycle – geologic processes, such as the formation of rocks or fossil fuels.
